When building a furnace, to choose light weight insulation fire brick or refractory brick

Aug. 27, 2018

Light weight insulation fire brick and refractory fire brick are commonly used in kiln furnaces and various high-temperature equipment. Although they are all brick shape refractory materials, their performance and application are completely different. Today,we are going to introduce the main functions and differences between the two.

The main function of light weight insulation fire brick is to keep warm and reduce the loss of heat. Insulation bricks generally do not directly contact the flame, while refractory bricks generally contact the flame directly. Refractory bricks are mainly used to withstand the flame temperature. Generally refractory material is divided into two types, namely, unshaped refractory materials and shaped refractory materials.

Shaped refractory materials are generally refractory bricks. They have standard shape and can be temporarily processed when needed.

The main differences between lightweight insulation fire bricks and refractory bricks are as follows:

1. Insulation performance: The thermal conductivity of lightweight insulation fire bricks is generally 0.2-0.4 (average temperature 350±25°C) w/mk, while the thermal conductivity of refractory bricks is 1.0 (average temperature 350±25°C) w/mk or more. It can be concluded that the insulation performance of the insulation brick is much better than that of the refractory brick.

2. Refractoriness: The refractoriness of lightweight insulation fire bricks is generally below 1400 degrees, while the refractory bricks have a refractoriness of more than 1400 degrees.

This installment we mainly introduced difference between light weight insulation fire brick and refractory brick. Hope this can bring help to furnace builders. Next installment we will continue to introduce the difference between light weight insulation fire brick and refractory brick. Please stay tuned.
